It was the summer of 2004. At the time I was a middle school Physical Education teacher and had the summers off (those were the days). My son Vinny, four then, wanted to go to the park. I grabbed some t-ball equipment and off we went. I set up the t-ball stand and other children gathered around to play. Vinny grabbed the bat and hit a grand slam! Another boy (same age) was next; he could not hold the bat properly much less figure out where to stand at the plate. Could it be my son was a star athlete? As much as I would like to say yes, the answer was no. Vinny had simply been taught and the other boy had not.
