The Ready Room was founded in 1981. Originally opened as a sandwich and sub delivery restaurant, it later changed to a diner with beer and wine service. The Ready Room was featured in the 1990 action film, Navy seals, which was directed by Lewis Teague. In April of 1998, the current owner, Fran (we use first names around here!), purchased the Ready Room. In 1999, the Ready Room was remodeled and became a full-service bar.
Because Fran’s Ready Room is located near several military installations, including NAS Oceana and the Dam Neck Annex, JEB Fort Story, Norfolk Naval Station, and the Coast Guard’s ISC Portsmouth, many active duty servicemembers and veterans visit “The Room” during their leave and downtime. Fran’s Ready Room regularly participates and hosts charity drives that support military missions, military families, and veterans. However, anyone from the local community or visitors to our city are always welcome and guaranteed a memorable experience.
